What should dictate my Small living room design? Living rooms were originally intended to act as sophisticated settings for hosting and entertaining, while family rooms were used for more casual, everyday activities, like lounging, playing or watching TV. However, many homes today will only have one larger room that acts as both an entertainment and primary living space. If yours is the former, you’ll likely be utilizing it as a sitting room to have drinks and good conversation with guests, without distractions like television. As often shown in living room photos, a bar cart, formal furniture and an eye-catching focal point, such as a sophisticated fireplace and mantel, will help achieve this look and feel. On the other hand, if it is your primary living space it should see more daily use, often functioning as a TV room, complete with sofa sectional, media console and gaming spot (that cleans up nicely for guests, of course!). In the end, think about your needs when considering different Small living room ideas; after all, a family with small children will likely need a playroom more than a formal sitting room.
Go for simple designed lamps and shades. Tiffany styles and faceted crystals are a no no. Lamp bases made of plain ceramic or wrought iron and contemporary, spare brass designs work well with the minimalist style. Use recessed fixtures, like cans, for ambient lighting. Ornate chandeliers and fussy shades over faux-candle lights do not enlist the minimalist designs. Let the windows be simple or leave them bare for maximum natural lighting. Various options for the windows could be tab-top curtains on a simple wrought-iron pod, plantation shutters, 2-inch-wide wood blinds and Roman shades. Remove all unwanted clutter from your living room. Abundant pictures on the walls and tabletop tchotchkes should all be removed. They just do not form a part of the minimalism. Instead of small clusters of pictures, a single large picture on each wall would be better. Floral chintz, shelves packed with knick-knacks, and ornate wrought iron just have to be removed from the living room.
Traditional Spanish Colonial Style Living Room. The design of the house was a family affair. As it is located in mountainous dessert region, this house has the best view as well as the climate. The living room looks warm and designed in traditional Spanish colonial style or Mediterranean design. The floors connect with patio outside and the ceiling is in groove wood. The special design from this room is hand-carved fireplace from rare Moroccan cantera stone.
Simple Living Room Decorating Ideas. Furniture Arrangement The design and spacing of you living room may call for a certain type of furniture arrangement. If you have a fireplace in your living room, position your sofa and recliner on a wall beside it. Both the items can also be placed several feet directly in front of the fireplace. If your living room is large and spacious, the sofas can be placed facing each other. Take care that your furniture should neither be too large, nor too small, in proportion to the living room. Do not use too many furniture items in the living room.
